Disruptive Games’ multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title Megalith has been available for PlayStation VR for just over a year now, allowing players to step into the shoes of titans to fight it out. It has now been revealed that Megalith will soon be coming to a new platform, Oculus Rift.
The studio revealed the news on Twitter, saying: “Megalith fans! Exciting news is upon us as we expand the battlefield to Steam. We are excited to bring this experience to a new platform with new fans and players! More info coming soon.”
While VRFocus would normally expect a Steam release to include several headsets such as Valve Index, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality currently only the Oculus Rift is listed. It’s great to hear that Megalith is being made available for more platforms but the big question is whether it’ll support cross-play between PC VR and PlayStation VR, a feature that would be vital for community growth.
Megalith is all about teamwork, where players are paired up to fight other teams of titans. There are five starting titans to choose from (Tundra, Cipher, Taur, Aurora, and Hunter), each having their own unique powers and abilities for particular strategic advantages. Powerful by themselves, these abilities become even more effective when combined with your teammates.
Battles must be carefully managed as you need to attack your enemy’s defences whilst protecting your own. And there’s no point being a titan if you don’t have minions to command. To help lead your forces into enemy territory you’ll need to destroy enemy walls and towers so they can then attack the base, with a few specialised siege minions aiding the assault.
When Disruptive Games reveals further details on the PC version of Megalith, VRFocus will let you know.
It may be getting cold and dark here in the UK but over in California it always seems to be sunny. And that’s where we’re heading for this weeks’ VR Job Hub, with myriad delights on offer for those keen on working in the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) industries.

Megalith (2018), the first-person PSVR battle arena from Disruptive Games, now boasts a free demo that gives you a good chance to try out all of the game’s Titans before plonking down the cash for the full game.
In Megalith you play as a powerful Titan protecting your team’s base. Each Titan has their own special abilities and preferred range, making for an interesting study in balance. It’s not just head-to-head combat though; like in typical MOBAs Megalith has little minions that stream from each base which try to push ever forward by destroying defensive towers and walls along the way to victory.
Like in the game’s open beta, users looking to try Megalith for free will be given the choice of two Titans each week out of the possible five: Aurora, Cipher, Hunter, Taur, and Tundra.
The full game of course gives you free reign to pick whatever Titan you want, although a big benefit to the free trial is the ability to earn spendable gems to unlock skins, that along with all progress, comes with you when you buy the full game.
You’ll find the free trial on the game’s store page under ‘Free Demo’. Megalith has so far been very well received on the PlayStation Store, getting a solid [4.5/5] user rating.
Last week during the start of the year chaos that is CES 2019, Disruptive Games launched its PlayStation VR multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title Megalith. While the feedback has been positive, the studio is looking to improve certain aspects for players, revealing work on a trial version as well as additional updates.
As a lot of developers soon discover when dealing with online multiplayer videogames for virtual reality (VR), keep ing experience populated can be a struggle. Which is why Disruptive Games is working on a trial version to encourage more players over, it’ll be completely free and allow them to play with those who have bought the full version. They’ll also be able to earn in-game currency and unlock skins that will carry over to the full videogame if they chose to purchase it.
There is, of course, one small caveat to the free trial. Players will be restricted to a hero rotation system and won’t have full access to the Titans unless they purchase the title.
And for players who’ve already purchased Megalith, the studio is working on improving expansion Titan unlocks. Currently, Titans can only be purchased through the store but in a future update, they’ll become purchasable via earned in-game currency. Meaning players will have the choice of grinding towards a free Titan unlock or spending some cash to do it instantly.
Detailing all these changes in a Reddit posting, Disruptive Games went on to say: “We believe these upcoming changes will help reward players for their time investment as well open the gates for new players to experience Megalith. The ability to earn Thorn and Shade via earned currency will be released soon after the trial is deployed. We will share more information as we approach the release of these features.”
At the moment Disruptive Games has yet to give a concrete date regarding when the trial version will be released.
In Megalith, players can choose from a selection of Titans to take into battle in teams of two, with the purpose being to destroy opponents using a range of special abilities. However, the videogame isn’t just about Titans fighting each other. Teams need to help their minions attack opponents defences, destroying walls and towers to aid their forces as much as possible. When more information has been released, VRFocus will let you know.
One of the more interesting titles announced for PlayStation VR in 2017 was Disruptive Games’ titanic brawler Megalith. With a released date set for January 2019, today has seen the rollout of a free beta alongside the first official gameplay footage.
In Megalith, players can choose from a selection of Titans to take into battle in teams of two, with the purpose being to destroy opponents using a range of special abilities. These can be used on their own or made even more effective when coordinated with an ally.

For the beta there will be five Titans to choose from, Tundra, Cipher, Taur, Aurora, and Hunter. Only two will be available at one time, with the selection changing each week. Players will find their characters may differ from others to ensure varied gameplay during the beta phase.
In addition to the beta, Disruptive Games has made the videogame available to pre-order. For those that do order the title, they’ll be able to choose from any of the five titans at any time during the beta. Other pre-order bonuses include:
Bonus: Avatar pack including the starting five Titans.
Bonus: One DLC Titan granted when the game releases.
Exclusive: Epic skins for each of the starting five Titans when the game releases.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Megalith, reporting back with further updates as announcements are made.
The team at Disruptive Games have been hard at work on their upcoming virtual reality (VR) title about Titans battling it out for control of the Earth for some time now but finally Megalith has a release date. Coming to the PlayStation VR, players will be able to jump in and experience thrilling battles as massive characters unleashing powerful abilities go head-to-head to walk away with victory.
Though players will feel a sense of power as they unleash their titan abilities in this player-versus-player (PVP) hero shooter title, each Titan is an equal match meaning mastering their moves and abilities will be important. Teamwork will make the battle easier as there are objects to be achieved to win the battle but the open battlefield does mean that players will need to keep an eye out for the enemy.
Featuring destructible environments, nowhere is safe as the enemy could come crashing through a wall to land a surprise attack on you and your team. Thanks to a free locomotion system players will find that moving around the virtual world and unleashing their wrath of destruction will be as easy as it is fun.
When checking out the title at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2018, the team at Disruptive Games commented saying: “We love playing online games and have spent many years crafting multiplayer experiences before forming Disruptive, Megalith is the culmination of everything we have learned along the way. We have been blown away by the potential of VR gaming, and are excited to be pushing the platform as it evolves.”
The official release date for Megalith is set for January 8th, 2019 with a free trial version being made available available on November 13th, 2018 alongside a discounted digital pre-order exclusively through the PlayStation Store, it has been revealed. By pre-ordering at the PlayStation Store players will immediately unlock all Titans available during the trial, exclusive epic skins and an Avatar pack for each of the starting five Titans, along with one additional DLC Titan included at launch.
As PlayStation VR owners prepare themselves for battle against other titans, VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on Megalith in the future so make sure to stay tuned for more.
Megalith, a first-person arena brawler from Disruptive Games, is slated to arrive on PSVR on January 8th, 2019. Both pre-order availability and a free trial are landing on the PlayStation Store today, November 13th.
Update (November 12th, 2018): On top of releasing a slick new gameplay trailer, Disruptive Games speaks a little more about what to expect for Megalith in a PS blogpost, specifically detailing what Titans you’ll be able to play during the multi-week open beta. Players who haven’t pre-ordered will have access to two random Titans per week, while players who have pre-ordered will have access to all five immediately and a few other goodies including ‘Epic’ skins for each of the starting five Titans when the game releases.
The original article explaining the game’s core concepts follows below the Titans’ character sheets:

Original Article (October 10th, 2018): We went hands-on with Megalith back at this year’s E3, and the two matches we played showed some real potential for fun, fast-paced co-op brawling. Like most MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arena), it’s a classic rush to attack the other team’s base, send out and direct tiny armies of soldiers, and destroy dangerous towers along the way.
Disruptive Games, a studio founded by Insomniac Game alumni, has their work cut out for them in making sure each character is correctly balanced, as you can choose from several ‘Titans’, each with their own unique abilities, power, and locomotion speeds.
Digital pre-order of the game will unlock all Titans available during the trial, exclusive skins and an Avatar pack for each of the starting five Titans, and one additional DLC Titan included at launch.
There’s no word on when/if other platforms will see support.
For those that haven’t heard of Megalith before, Disruptive Games’ first virtual reality (VR) title is an action packed shooter that puts you inside giant fighting Titans. The goal is simple, defeat other titans using an array of massive firepower to achieve the goal of becoming a god.
These battles aren’t single, solitary PvP fights to the death, as Nina points out it’s about teamwork as well because there are objectives that can be achieved in order to win. With big open fields of battle, the environments are destructible so there’s nowhere to hide. Megalith also employs a free locomotion system for ultimate manoeuverability and strategy options.
“We love playing online games and have spent many years crafting multiplayer experiences before forming Disruptive,” states the team. “Megalith is the culmination of everything we have learned along the way. We have been blown away by the potential of VR gaming, and are excited to be pushing the platform as it evolves.”
As Nina found out whilst playing against Disruptive Games being a Titan isn’t all its cracked up to be, definitely proving that Titans aren’t all powerful – or indestructible – when faced off against their own kind.
Megalith might be a timed exclusive for PlayStation VR but as yet, Disruptive Games has yet to official state a date for the release of the multiplayer. When that does happen, VRFocus will bring you the latest news on this eagerly awaited title.
Update (11/13/18): Megalith is now available for free in Open Beta for everyone with a PSVR. You can download it right now from the PSN Store. The beta period is expected to last for “a couple months” and will contain access to two of the five planned “Titans” or hero characters. Every week the rotation of access will change so that all Open Beta players have access to the same assortment at any given time.
However, if you pre-order the game, you’ll unlock access to all five in the Open Beta right away, as well as an avatar pack, a free DLC character post-launch, and exclusive “Epic” skins for each Titan. For our preliminary impressions from E3, read on below.
Original (6/19/18): VR does a few, specific things really, really well. One of those things is help players fulfill power fantasies. When I play Robo Recall, I feel like an action movie star that’s got skill of the same caliber as the likes of John Wick. When I play Archangel: Hellfire I really feel like I’m piloting an ultra-powerful mech with rockets and lasers. And now, when I play Megalith, I feel like a Goddess of Thunder.
During my hands-on demo of Megalith at E3 last week, I took control of Aurora, who is a lightning-based hero that can shoot lightning bolt, cast out giant electric orbs, summon storm clouds, and even fly up into the air to rain down enough bolts of lightning to make even Zeus proud.
Megalith, as we learned last year, is coming to PSVR soon and aims to bring a nice blend of first-person shooter gameplay with the overall flow of a MOBA. That means that while your particular hero will be controlled much like it would be in other first-person action games, you’ll have a base to defend, towers to protect, and minions at your side. All that other stuff is automated though so you can focus on the action.
Disruptive Games captured the gameplay video above, which shows an E3 attendee playing as Cipher, the fire-based hero. I fought against him partnered up with a duplicate Aurora as the enemy, and with Taurus, a melee hero, on my team. Matches in Megalith are designed to be 2v2, which sounds small, but the action was anything but slow-paced.
For my demo Taurus and I spawned back at our base and immediately set off for the middle of the map where much of the action takes place. Our side had two different entry points, both of which were flanked by two turret towers. We easily won the match and I think only one of our four towers ever even took damage.
Movement in Megalith is similar to the smooth locomotion from Skyrim on PSVR. You point in a direction using the Move controller and then hold down the trigger to move that way. Face buttons do things like rotate your orientation for turning and activate your different abilities.
When you activate an ability it doesn’t automatically get set off, but instead you then aim your right hand and pull the trigger to use it. If you don’t have an ability equipped at that time, you’ll just use your character’s default attack.
For Aurora, her default was a medium-range lightning burst. It did good damage if I could get within range, but getting too close left me vulnerable to nasty burst attacks from Cipher and the enemy Aurora. Her abilities involved a bigger, much longer range sustained lightning blast, an electric orb, and a thunder cloud.
My favorite combo was to hit them with an orb, which stunned them in place, and then follow that up with a storm cloud above their head for some hefty damage over time. My Taurus teammate could also slam the ground to create a rock wall and trap enemies, which also combined well with the storm cloud.
Aurora’s ultiamte sent her flying up into the sky, where I could flip the controller over up at my shoulder (raising it like Zeus would a bolt of lighting) and pull the trigger to shoot bolts down rapidly. These did a ton of damage and if I timed it well I could easily wipe the other team with a single ultimate.
Combining hero powers and understanding the lanes of approach on maps will be a huge part of Megalith’s meta game strategy. Minions aren’t much to worry about in small numbers, but in large groups they can absolutely wreak havoc quickly.
I’m eager to try out all of the different heroes in Megalith since they’re all so different. Keeping game sizes small (just 2v2) should help make sure finding a match isn’t too hard, but the game will also need good AI and a decent amount of single player or co-op content to really be successful.
