Bulgarian indie developer Rabbit Mountain teased a follow-up virtual reality (VR) project to its successful title Jurassic VR back in September, talking about “a highly immersive episodic thriller” for mobile platforms. Today the studio has announced Haunted Rooms: Escape VR Game for iOS and Android, created in partnership with Zariba.
Based upon the popular escape the rooms gameplay in which players need to find their way out of a room through solving a series of puzzles, Haunted Rooms: Escape VR Game combines this with a horror element to maximise the atmosphere.
Waking in a dark room with no memories or clues as to why they’re there, players have to find out what’s happened, and unravel the sinister plot surrounding their isolation. Finding themselves in a haunted house where the lost souls that inhabit the building also want out, someone or something is keeping the dead trapped inside and they must tread very carefully. Players will uncover the story piece by piece as they progress through each room, with further episodes being released on a regular basis.
As a mobile VR videogame, Haunted Rooms: Escape VR Game is compatible with Google Cardboard and other similar head-mounted displays (HMDs) such as Merge VR or Zeiss VR One. It can also be played without a headset using touchscreen controls.
Rabbit Mountain also has plans to support other VR HMDs in the future with Google’s Daydream View named as one alongside other high-end VR platforms.
