Jaunt is known as a prolific creator of immersive virtual reality (VR) and 360-degree content. Now the Royal Opera House has announced a collaboration with Jaunt that’s seen the creation of Nabucco.
The VR experience is the first one ever created by The Royal Opera House, transports viewers into the heart of the Royal Opera Chorus. Using the Jaunt ONE camera, a professional-grade camera system with 24 lenses specifically designed by Jaunt for capturing high-quality, high-frame rate, high dynamic range, 360-degree cinematic experiences, the camera was combined with over 59 microphones floating above stage, in the orchestra pit and on Chorus members themselves.
The video takes viewers on the journey of creating Verdi’s Nabucco, from the rehearsal room, through the costume department and to final stage rehearsals before the main performance itself. Jaunt filmed the experience in partnership with Soundintermedia during the June 2016 run of Nabucco, which starred Plácido Domingo.

The Royal Opera House wants to showcase world-class opera to a wider audience across the UK and the world, which is why this experience has been created. But its not the first time VR has been used. Back in December 2015 a rehearsal of The Nutcracker by the Royal Ballet was captured.
