Earlier this year it came out that Samsung had trouble with its Galaxy Note 7 mobile device, which is compatible with the Samsung Gear VR, as there were reports of the device exploding and catching fire. Samsung took action on this and sent out replacement phones that were thought to not react in this way, but after today’s reports that isn’t true. Samsung have now put a hold on the production of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 now that even the replacement phones are starting to catch fire and emit smoke.
It came after reports on major news websites that Samsung had put a hold on the production, Samsung telling the BBC it was “adjusting the production schedule to ensure quality and safety matters”.
Late last week there was a statement issued regarding this issue, with Samsung saying “Samsung understands the concern our carriers and consumers must be feeling after recent reports have raised questions about our newly released replacement Note7 devices.
“We continue to move quickly to investigate the reported case to determine the cause and will share findings as soon as possible.”
There is no further word on when the mobile device will be returning to production, or if it would be, but judging from the reports of the Note 7 giving off smoke and exploding in some cases, it would be a smart move to abandon usage of it in Gear VR head-mounted displays (HMD), and in general use.
