Last month VRFocus reported on developer High Voltage Software launching a closed beta for its upcoming card battler Dragon Front. The videogame has made an appearance today on the keynote address for Oculus Connect 3, with the company announcing the Dragon Front beta is open to anyone who wishes to try it on Oculus Rift or Gear VR.
Immersing players in a diesel-punk, fantasy world Dragon Front features 280 characters, 80 different encampments, and more than 100 spells among four thematically diverse armies with which to do battle.
As spells are cast, minions summoned and fortifications built, they are all fully rendered onto an immersive battlefield for players to watch as their card choices are played out. Watch as mobile squads, rampaging giants, intimidating war machines, soaring projectiles, fire-breathing dragons and much more battle it out for supremacy.
As Dragon Front is still in beta players need to be aware that bugs and glitches will still be present until the title fully launches. But joining the beta is completely free for Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR users, and anyone that joined in the closed beta will be able to continue in the open one. High Voltage Software has stated in a blog posting that any progress or purchases made during the beta phase will carry over to the full title, so there’s no need to hold back. For Gear VR users the studio has also said: “Board Health is toggled to “gaze only” to extend your playtime. Adjusting this setting may affect your device’s thermal performance.
“S6 users: please note that we locked the game to 30 fps during the Open Beta for thermal performance reasons ensuring longer game sessions. We plan to continue to improve and optimize the game for S6 devices.”
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Dragon Front, reporting back with any further announcements.
