We take a bit of a sidestep on Life Is 360° today and into an area connected with something we’ve reported on before. One of the more regular inclusions on Life In 360° is motor sport and we’ve covered all sorts. We’ve also covered on Li360, as well as covered generally on VRFocus, Formula E. For those that aren’t familiar with Formula E it is high-speed racing but the cars are specifically electric based. It’s been going for a couple of seasons now and yesterday Mercedes announced they would also be joining in the formula.
One of the things Formula E have done is to push the envelope in terms of the way you can watch the product both live and afterwards. One such way comes with Virtually Live. The company has just launched their first public demo showing Formula E’s second season (2015/16) highlights in virtual reality (VR) which you can watch and ride along with on the HTC Vive.
The twenty minutes of highlights come from the races in Long Beach in California, from Berlin and from London.
The app also features:
– A guided walk-through
– Teleportation movement allowing you to watch what happened from any position around the track.
– On-board views from the driver’s cars.
– Watch the actual clips of the TV broadcasts of incidents embedded within the experience and experience the chatter on the race radio as it happened.
– A dashboard featuring real-time driver positions and stats
“We’re thrilled to be at the forefront of True Virtual Reality and give our fans more exciting ways to watch our sport.” Explains Formula E’s CEO Alejandro Agag, “The launch of this App is the culmination of a successful Season 2 partnership we had with Virtually Live, and we are delighted to give fans the opportunity to experience an ePrix from their own perspective; whether in the car of their favourite driver, or various positions around the track.”
You can find a trailer for this below. You can also find the highlights app on Steam and Viveport now whilst an Oculus Rift version will be making its way to Oculus Home “soon”. VRFocus will be back with a more regular visit to Life In 360 later in the week.
