Hungry Shark Heading to VR with Google Daydream

Ubisoft has significantly upped their efforts in virtual reality (VR) this year, with four titles set to launch for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR prior to the year’s end. Revealed today is a smaller title developed by the company’s London studio, Future Games of London (FGOL), based on the hugely popular mobile franchise, Hungry Shark.

A version of Hungry Shark World, known as Hungry Shark VR, will be made available for the Google Daydream platform later this year. The videogame has players take on the role of a shark attempting to survive against immense hunger, whilst also searching for currency (used for upgrades) and hidden artefacts. Several different shark types are available, growing in size and aggression as the player progresses through the videogame.

Little is currently known about how the Hungry Shark formula will be adapted for VR. Previous instalments have been 2D affairs in which the player uses touchscreen input to navigate left and right, or up and down. However, the short gameplay sessions and adrenaline-based objectives could arguably make for a well-rounded mobile VR videogame experience.

Hungry Shark VR is currently expected to launch alongside Google’s own Daydream head-mounted display (HMD), Daydream View, later this year. No price information is currently available, but VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
