Keep Your PlayStation VR on While Checking Your Phone in anywhereVR

Gearing up for this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS), PlayStation showcased a multitude of various titles, and there were a few familiar PlayStation VR titles that we have seen before – all after the incredibly hyper-Japan montage that kicked it all off. One that hasn’t been seen before however was Anywhere VR, an application that lets you check through your phone in VR whilst putting your feet up and relaxing.

Created by Sony Music Entertainment, what Anywhere VR does is connect your smartphone to the PlayStation 4, where you can “enjoy your smartphone, Twitter, and mini games”. As shown in the preview video during the conference, your phone screen will be projected up in front of a relaxing scene, and users can control their phone as usual but there will be a real-time reaction to what they do.

The environments that users can enjoy range from classically pleasant nature scenes such as fields of flowers, waterfalls, and beaches, to atmospheric rooms where you can curl up in front of the fireplace.

As this is made by Sony Music Entertainment, there was a slight lack of focus on music except from the “pleasant background music” that will feature throughout. Whether or not it will be the classical music that was played throughout the video is not clear, only that you will be in an “audiovisual environment”.

This is, however, the first time users’ smartphones have been shown to be integrated with the PlayStation VR, so it will be interesting to see if this will be the only application to do so or if a trend will be set.

There is currently no release date set for anywhereVR, so make sure to check back with VRFocus for developments, as well as for all the news, updates, and features in the world of VR.
