The list of accessories for the PlayStation VR is growing rapidly. VRFocus has already delivered a guide to the best accessories for PlayStation VR, and yet today Nyko has revealed their own line of peripheral products: the VR Anti-Nausea Wristband and VR Boundary Safety System.
The VR Anti-Nausea Wristband, according to Nyko, is designed to ‘ease or eliminate the negative effects of prolonged VR headwear use’. Equipped with an acupressure bead, the VR Anti-Nausea Wristband stimulates a key point on the interior of the wrist that may reduce common side effects of virtual reality (VR) like nausea, dizziness or headaches. In order to use, the player should position the wristband a three-finger width below the base of the palm to help prevent negative VR side effects or to potentially lessen them after a prolonged play session. However, Nyko also offers the following statement:
“The above claims have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. This is not a medical device.”
The second peripheral, the VR Boundary Safety System, is obviously inspired by the HTC Vive’s chaperone system for roomscale experiences. Despite the PlayStation VR being significantly more limited in tracking player movement than the HTC Vive, Nyko’s VR Boundary Safety System alerts the player before approaching furniture and other items in the room. The product includes four positional sensors and two wearable alert wristbands, which form a grid that sends alerts when the player approaches the user defined boundary: when nearing the edge of the playable area, the corresponding wristband will vibrate, alerting you before you cross the line.
Though addressing the PlayStation VR audience directly, at present there’s no reason to suggest wither of these devices wouldn’t be compatible with other head-mounted displays (HMDs), such as the Oculus Rift or Samsung Gear VR. For the HTC Vive, the VR Boundary Safety System is of course somewhat redundant.
Both devices are currently expected to launch in North America this month, with the VR Anti-Nausea Wristband priced at $9.99 USD and the VR Boundary Safety System available for $79.99. No launch outside of North America has yet been confirmed, but of course VRFocus will keep you updated with any further details on these and other PlayStation VR peripherals.
