Oculus Touch 24HR Hackathon Taking Place in Brighton

It must be hackathon / game jam season currently with a mixture of events occurring over the course of September. VRFocus had its very first event, the Virtual Reality Challenge last weekend, and this week Epic Games and NVIDIA announced the VR Funhouse Game Jam, taking place in Hamburg, Germany, on a boat. But there’s more in store for UK-based virtual reality (VR) developers and enthusiasts with the Oculus Touch 24hr VR Hackathon taking place next week in Brighton.

The event will give aspiring VR developers the opportunity to get their hands on Oculus VR’s upcoming motion-tracked controllers Oculus Touch. The devices are due to be launched later this year but currently Oculus has yet to state a release date or price.

Beginning at 9am on Thursday 15th and continuing through to 12pm on Friday 16th September, the hackathon is currently accepting registrations from coders, artists designers or those that can do a bit of everything. Entrants will then be teamed up with 3-4 other people, or they can enter a whole team, and given 24 hours to create a project on Unity under the theme of ‘Mini-game fun’.

Registration is free and each team will be provided with an Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch controllers along with an AMD VR-Ready PC to run the equipment. Entrants must bring their own Windows-based development hardware to the hackathon.

On Friday morning the projects will be judged with the winning team walking away with an Oculus Rift. VRFocus will be represented at the event by editor-in-chief Kevin Joyce, who will assist in judging the entries, while the other judges come from Make Real and Unity.

Head to the sign-up page for further details on what you need to do to prepare and register. VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest hackathon events, reporting back with any new announcements.
